Speak Life in the Valley

"The hand of the Lord was on me..." (Ezekiel 37:1) When I read the story of the valley of dry bones, something stood out to me that I had never noticed before. God didn't simply show Ezekiel the valley. He led him there. The valley wasn't an accident. The dry bones weren't a surprise. God intentionally brought Ezekiel into a place that looked hopeless, lifeless, and beyond repair. But He didn't bring him there to join the bones. He brought him there to speak life to them.
I wonder how many times God has led me into situations that looked dead, only for me to become consumed by what I saw instead of remembering why He brought me there. A struggling marriage. A wandering child. Financial stress. Emotional exhaustion. A dream that feels forgotten.
Sometimes we become so focused on the dry bones around us that we start agreeing with them. We speak what we see. We speak the problem. We speak the fear. We speak the impossibility. But God asked Ezekiel to do something different. He told him to prophesy. To speak His Word. To declare life where death appeared to have the final say.
What struck me most is that God could have spoken directly to the bones Himself. Instead, He invited Ezekiel into the process. He gave him His Word. He gave him authority. And then He asked him to speak. Even in the valley, God was still leading, speaking, directing, and working. The valley did not change God's presence. The valley did not change God's power. The valley did not change God's promises.
And maybe that's the reminder some of us need today. The valley you are standing in may not be the place where God wants you to lose hope. It may be the very place He is calling you to speak life. To your family. To your finances. To your future. To your weary heart. To the sons and daughters who have wandered. To the situations that seem impossible. Not because your words have power on their own, but because God's Word never returns void.
Maybe today the question isn't, "How did I end up in this valley?" Maybe the question is… What has God called me to speak while I'm here?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I've agreed with the dry bones instead of agreeing with You. Thank You for reminding me that You have given me Your Word and invited me to participate in what You are doing. Help me speak faith where fear has taken root, hope where discouragement has settled in, and life where things seem dead. Teach me to trust what You say more than what I see. In Jesus' name, Amen.
