Hope in the waiting

There are seasons in life when God feels silent, when the plans we had for ourselves unravel, and the future looks nothing like what we prayed for. In moments like these, Jeremiah 29 speaks volumes—not just verse 11, but the whole chapter. God's people were in exile, living in a place they never wanted to be, surrounded by circumstances they couldn’t change. And in the middle of that painful season, God tells them through Jeremiah, “Build houses and settle down... Seek the peace of the city where I’ve sent you.” In other words, “You’re going to be here a while. But I’m still with you.”

That hits differently when you're in your own “exile.” For me, this season has been tough—my husband hasn’t been working for about three months, and I haven’t gotten paid for three months either (I don’t get paid over the summer). There have been moments when I’ve laid awake at night wondering how it’s all going to work out, feeling the pressure of providing, planning, and staying hopeful. But reading Jeremiah was so encouraging. It felt like a fresh reminder from God: “I’m still with you. I know the plans I have for you—and for your family.”

As humans, it’s so easy to worry and stress about our current situation. But God’s Word whispers louder than our fears. He hasn't abandoned us. He’s not punishing us. He's preparing us. What feels like a delay might actually be divine development. Just like the Israelites, we might be in a place we didn’t choose, but God is still doing something intentional in it.

God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11 isn’t just about getting out of hard places—it’s about trusting Him while we’re in them. His plans are still good. His presence is still near. And even if this season doesn’t change tomorrow, we can live fully in it, knowing He hasn’t left us for a second.

So if you’re like me—waiting, praying, budgeting, hoping—take heart. God’s plans aren’t cancelled just because the road looks different. He’s writing something we can’t yet see. Don’t rush it. Lean into it. He got you.

Prayer:

God, I just want to thank you - thank your for ALWAYS being with us and never abandoning us. I repent for the times I focus on my exile rather than you. You are a good good Father and I will trust in you. For you know the plans you have foe me - not to harm me but to give me hope and a future. Help me keep my eyes, hope, and faith in you, especially when I need it most. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
