Broken to Be Whole: The Road to Clarity

Before Paul became one of the greatest advocates for the Gospel, he was struck blind on the road to Damascus. He was a man on a mission—just not the mission God had for him. Saul, as he was called then, was persecuting Christians, believing he was doing God’s work. But God had a different plan. In an instant, everything he thought he knew came crashing down. Saul was blinded, left in the dark for three days, unable to see physically and perhaps more than ever before, spiritually.

Sometimes, like Saul, we too need to be broken in order to truly see. We often think we’re on the right path—doing what seems best, what makes sense. But God, in His wisdom and love, may allow us to experience moments of brokenness to shake us awake. He has to get our attention. He has to blind us to our own ways so that we can see His.

We see in the story of Paul that God didn’t leave Saul in his brokenness. In the same way, He doesn’t leave us in our times of weakness or brokenness. After his blindness, Saul was led to Ananias, who prayed for him and restored his sight. God didn’t just physically heal him—He spiritually opened his eyes to the truth of the Gospel. Saul, the persecutor, became Paul, the preacher.

In life, there are seasons when God will allow us to experience brokenness, loss, or confusion. We might feel blinded by circumstances or struggles, unsure of where to go or how to move forward. But this is where God often does His deepest work. He may break us to remake us. The cracks in our lives are where His light can shine brightest. And when He opens our eyes, we will see things as they truly are, with a renewed clarity and purpose.

Can you think of a time in your life when God allowed you to experience brokenness? Maybe it felt like a detour or a setback at the time. But now, looking back, do you see how God used that moment to open your eyes to something greater? How did that experience shape your faith and your understanding of God’s purpose for you?

If you’re feeling broken or blinded right now, trust that God is in the process of healing you. He will restore your sight—not just physically, but spiritually, giving you a deeper understanding of His truth.

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that sometimes, I don’t understand why I have to go through seasons of brokenness. But I trust that You are always at work, even in my pain. Like Saul, I ask You to open my eyes—to see things the way You see them. If there’s any area in my life where I’m blinded to Your will, I invite You to reveal it to me. Heal me where I’m broken and use my story to bring You glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
